MAGNETIC FIELDS

Paintings by Eleni Kolliopoulou

September 18 - October 17, 2021

My work pays much attention to the site-specific dimension of the performance/ installation which I perceive as a live organism in constant modification: a togetherness.

Eleni Kolliopoulou explores the intersection between performance and philosophy.

In the body of paintings in “Magnetic Fields,” the compositional elements of colour and line serve as extensions of different states of being and action which may be at once withdrawn and engaged from the everyday world.

This seminal body of work is the evolution of Eleni’s research at Ulster University in 2020, where she examined how time time is consumed and space is inhabited in function-oriented societies. The artwork created suggests how instead the 'art of lingering' can help us to develop a richer, multi-layered, and subjective experience.

Following is an interview that took place between Eleni Kolliopoulou and Todd Lowery Professor at Drury University while Eleni was preparing for her exhibition Magnetic Fields at Phoenix Athens.

Initially trained as a painter, Eleni Kolliopoulou explores the intersection between performance and philosophy. In her recent body of paintings entitled “Magnetic Fields,” the compositional elements of colour and line serve as extensions of different states of being and action which may be at once withdrawn and engaged from the everyday world.

This new body of work is a continuation of Eleni’s previous research at Ulster University in 2020 which examined the notion of consuming time and inhabiting space in our function-oriented societies with artworks that favour instead the 'art of lingering' and a richer, multi-layered, and subjective experience.
