Jonas Liverod
Spring, 2024
With The Notes, The Tainted & The Other Liveröd returns to his roots in drawing, mind-mapping and classical sculpture, exploring the damaged artefacts of Athens’ classical heritage. This body of work is marked by the artist’s fascination with the captivating qualities of friction and imperfection in artefacts and phenomena. During his residency at Phoenix Athens, Liveröd delved into the city's classical heritage, connecting the glitches of the sculptural universe with his associative mode of working. The exhibition which was created on site, uses drawings and watercolours to form the spine of a mind-map that sprawls out in notes, associative images, text and ephemera across the gallery walls.
The exhibition echoes the encyclopaedic form of his recently published book Grand Assembly, merging a number of parallel sculptural phenomena with the fascinating Athenian flaws. The show creates a dynamic interplay between system and associative connections.
Jonas Liveröd's (*1974) eclectic body of work defies categorisation, embracing an unrestrained energy and a continuous exploration of subjects, ideas and materials. His practice encompasses a wide array of mediums and disciplines to include textiles, sculpture, curation, lectures, collection and collaborative stage-shows. He has exhibited internationally at museums and galleries in Germany, France, Indonesia and the Netherlands. Liveröd's dedication to exploring the extraordinary culminates in his culturally interdisciplinary organisation, Luftslottet, and his own museums in Götene, Sweden where The Liveröd Wunderkammer and the Vanitas Pavilion celebrate the uncategorizable and the mysteries of life and death.
