Nicole Kouts

Nicole Kouts (S​​ão Paulo, Brazil, 1997) is a multimedia artist and researcher. She navigates realms of the known and unknown through video, collage, performance, printed/digital image, installation and net art. olds a Bachelor Degree in Visual Arts with Postgraduate Degree in Scenography and Costume Design (Belas Artes, São Paulo). Her work has integrated festivals and exhibitions in more than 20 countries, including the solo exhibitions ENIGMAS (2023, Kunsthal NORD, Aalborg, Denmark) and This message has no body (2021, The Wrong TV).


EYE WORD, features new works that were created by Nicole Kouts during her research residency period at Phoenix Athens. A Brazilian artist of Greek descent, Kouts artist investigates image, time and memory through analog-digital combinations of materials and devices. This body of work explores and delves into questions around the visual structures of language. These are based on her experience with image editing and archiving, word games and the archaeological past of Greece. Populating the new works are Images of passwords, crosswords and other analog interpretations of memory which are encrypted. By reformatting fragments of images into video, collage and embroidery, Kouts suggests visual connections with other means of communication and presents the viewer with new iterations of past, present, and future in an intricate and playful way.
