NOVEMBER
Katarzyna Kubrak (US/PL)

This November Phoenix Athens warmly welcomes Katarzyna Kubrak, a graduate of Parson’s (NY) Product Design Program and our first Polish artist in residence. Kubrak approaches craft as an embodied way of making that carries cultural, historical, ecological, and social significance.
For her 6-week research residency, Kubrak will be exploring the relationship between craft and design through both traditional and experimental approaches and a variety of media while drawing upon the art, culture and legacy of Greece.

Xanda McCagg

This November Phoenix Athens welcomes, Xanda McCagg, an American abstract painter based in Chelsea, New York City. She has a BFA in Art Education from Boston University and has participated in numerous artist residencies. She has exhibited her work globally and will continue to evolve her practice during her residency at Phoenix Athens.
Her work is a response to human suffering, addressing themes of causality and relationships through abstraction. Using tracing, marking, and vibrant color, she explores the essence of experience. Her use of positive and negative space captures the way absence and presence are often equally palpable. In Athens, she will explore the iconographical characteristics within Ancient Greek and Byzantine art to explore the ways in which environments shape creative work.
