The Villa Exarcheia Residency is situated in the neighbourhood of Neapoli-Exarchia just fifteen minutes by foot from Athens center. The residency provides time and space for academics and other creatives to immerse themselves in Athenian life and perfect their practice. We recognise that different artists have different needs so we provide three different types of residency packages :

  • Light Residency which is research driven

  • Full Residency which encourages technical and theoretical research and features a one-month exhibition

  • The “Locals Only” residency designed to assist and encourage Greek artists and students

An Athens-based curator works with each resident individually, providing support for research, practice and onsite community projects. The curator will be in discussion with the artists throughout their residency in order to provide a rounded collaboration. Technical assistance and advice is readily available and artists are encouraged to experiment with new materials and methods and perfect their skills by using the Makerspace facility. Separate Painting facilities are also available.

Each year, at least one artist or curator is invited for a one month residency in exchange for a public workshop or presentation. Proposals for this opportunity are reviewed on a rolling basis. We also welcome couples, teams of curators and artists. Please be sure to specify in your application if you wish to apply as a team and the names of any and all collaborators. The program currently features accommodations for up to three residents at a time.

If you wish to apply for outside funding, we recommend that you apply three to five months in advance so as to insure for this possibility during your stay. A list of funding bodies is provided. Please carefully read all the documents below before applying to the Villa Exarchia Residency.
